About Steve Huret

Steven “Steve” Huret was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee where he graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in his local Boy Scout troop.  After high school, he attended Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a History minor.  He received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where he was on the Dean’s List for multiple semesters, President of the Tennessee Student Bar Association, and a member of the ABA National Negotiation Team where he partnered with a classmate who later became his wife.

Steve returned to Kingsport in August of 2003 where he practiced with a well-respected law firm in the areas of auto accident injury, commercial and general civil litigation, estate and trust disputes, creditors’ rights and collections, foreclosures, landlord-tenant disputes, and homeowners associations.  In March of 2005, that law firm merged with another established law firm to become one of the preeminent law firms in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.  Steve became a shareholder in the merged law firm in 2009.  After multiple stints on the firm’s Executive and Compensation Committees, Steve served as the firm’s managing shareholder from March of 2020 until February of 2021.

With the support of his wife, who is also an attorney, his daughter, and the rest of his family, Steve opened his law firm in Johnson City, Tennessee in May of 2021.  Steve has worn bowties since college and almost exclusively for his professional attire since he started his legal career in 2003.  Steve is so well-known for his bowties by other attorneys and people in the community, they have become his professional calling card.  Whenever he meets a client in court who has not seen him before, his bowtie helps him stand out from the crowd.  When Steve opened his own law firm, it was a fitting choice to incorporate a bowtie based on Tennessee’s state flag into his firm’s logo.

A big reason why Steve started his own firm in Johnson City was to be closer to his family.  He loves being an involved dad with his daughter’s activities, whether it is cheering her on during intramurals, attending All Pro Dad meetings with her, or coaching her Johnson City Parks & Rec volleyball team.  He also gets to enjoy lunch on almost a daily basis with his wife, who is his biggest supporter.

Steve regularly gives back to the local community through service on boards of different non-profit organizations, which included past service as area president of the Kingsport Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Tri-Cities/SW Virginia.  Steve is a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport.  He is a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, where he previously served on different committees and taught a Sunday School class for young married couples.

Steve is an avid golfer, who prefers walking the fairways because of the serenity it provides, although it has been said that golf is just a good walk spoiled.  When the snowflakes fall, you can find Steve on the local ski slopes or playing pickup basketball.
